STRATFORD AGENCY. Advertisements and items of news for publication in tte Taranaki Daily News should be left at the office of our local representatives, Wilson Bros., Broadway, Stratford. Or tiers for paimrs may also be loft wit!' them. August 10. Business generally has been quiet during the last few days. The wet weather of last week kept visitors from town, but Broadway presented a busy appearance yesterday, both sides being lined with motor cars, and there was a good crowd on the streets. The rough weather of last week was responsible for a good deal of damage. One or two fences have been blown down, and at Skinner Road a lean-to addition to a small cottage was blown away by the gale. Fortunately the cottage is not now in use as a residence, and is used as a | trap-shed, but the manner in which the | lean-to was swept away testifies to the i great velocity of the wind over the unprotected portions of the district. A front, window in a business place on Broadway ' was nearly blown out on Thursday morn- ; ing, but was observed to be in danger j | in time to be made secure. The Stratford Gun Club is holding a ■ sparrow shoot to-morrow afternoon. The : shoot, which had been arranged for Eltham, { ! has been postponed, j An eighteen-hole match play competition will take place to-morrow between teams representing the ladies against the men of the Stratford Golf Club. The ladies •are to receive a stroke at each hole, with the exception of the sixth hole, in each round. The following is the draw: Mrs. Burmester v. H. E. Abraham; Mrs. Hill v. J. E. Winter; Mrs. Christie v. W. C. Christie; Mrs. Curtis v. P. D. Jefferies; Miss Wright v. G. E. .Iago; Mrs. Abraham j v. E. S. Rutherfurd; Mrs. Budge v. J. S. • Lyons; Mrs. Howard v. H. D. Hill; Miss , Sangster v. L. R. Curtis; Mrs. ’Lyons v. i F. P. Uniacke: Mrs. Copping v. H. C. i Wright; Mrs. Richards v. W. P. Pratt; ■ Mrs. Kay v. J. H. Thompson; Miss Sang- ■ ster v. H. Burmester : Mrs. Pratt v. R. V. i Kay; Mrs. Colenia’n v. D. J. Malone; Miss / Bates v. C. Williams; Miss Curtis v. A. i 1 Coleman. The match will start at iwo ; o’clock. —— r THE KING’S CINEMA THEATRE. j M’ALLACE REID IN "THE CHARM SCHOOL” There can be little doubt that if Wallace Reid should open up in any town the sort of a school which is shown in his latest Paramount picture, ‘The Charm School’’, which will be presented at the King’s i Theatre to-night, he would get more pupils than he could properly care for. In this j picture Mr. Reid inherits a girl’s boarding j school from his aunt, and, believing that girls should spend more, time in making • themselves beautiful, and less in preparing themselves for business and politics, he ' changes the method of instruction and makes his institution a ‘'charm’’ school, with esthetic dancing, swimming, athletics and beauty secrets as the principal studies. A world of romance develops, and no wonder with Wally as the principal and fifty j beauties as the pupils. Lila Lee is the ' i leading woman, and an excellent cast sup- ; ports the star. In addition to the above I rhe Mack Sennett comedy, “Her Blighted [ Life’’, will be screened. Seats may be booked at the King’s Theatre, Stratford. j Envelopes.—Thousands of them, at | cut prices: Buff Manilla, commercial size, A/G box of 500, 10/- 1000; Azure Manilla, small size for accounts 4/- box of 250. 15/- 1000.
