WAITARA TENNIS CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) August 9. j The Waitara Lawn Tennis Club held I its annual meeting on Wednesday last, Mr. S. G. Fraser presiding. 1 The following new members were ’elected: Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Rattenbury, , Messrs Wheatley, Bain, McGregor, M. I Fowler, Osborne/and Dr. Allison. The election of officers resulted: Presi dent, Mr. S. G. Fraser; viqe-presidents. Messrs. L. H. Sampson, Vaughan, Blair, and P. J. Allen; bon. eec.. Mr. Gaw, general committee, Messrs. C. 11. Tate, H. Wefls. J. Hall, Bain and Pitman; j ground committee, Messrs. C. H. Tate, Bain and Gaw, ladies’ committee, Mrs. Glasgow. Misses Hawkins, K. Walker, i Bernsten, with power to add; auditor, I Mr. L. 11. Sampson; match committee, j Messrs. Tate, Bain and Gaw. Mr. C. H. .’Tate was appointed club captain. I The following subscriptions were deicided upon: Gentlemen £2, ladies 255, .juniors (up to 18 years) half rates. The • entrance fee is nqt to be enforced, this > year. i The president (Mr. S. G. Frneer), on behalf of the members of the club, made a presentation of a travelling bag to the late secretary. Mr. L. Johns-tone, who is leaving Waitara to enter another branch of the Bank of New Zealand. DRAINAGE BY THE GALE. The gale of last week uprooted trees on Mr. Jennings’ beach property and also lifted a concrete tank. A number of big trees were uprooted on the main road, not far from the Waiongona river. I The paneo of glass at the Lepperton 'railway signal box suffered by the haili stones, and gardens generally in that j locality had a rough time. Damage' w’as done to the north wall at the en- i trance to the Waitara river by the ab ■ normal tides. One big concrete block . weighing about 20 tons has disappeared altogether and a capping covering a number of other blocks has also disappeared.
