The second phase of the Greek offensive has begun in Asia Minor. It commenced with an attack on North Leftke. The Turks are outnumbered and are retiring. The struggle promises to be long and bloody, the Greeks’ task becoming more difficult as they advance. The losses in the late fighting are unknown, but they are probably fairly equal on both sides. Turkish deserters are constantly surrendering.—Times Service. WARSHIPS TAKE PART. THE COAST BOMBARDED. Received August 9, 7.50 p.m. London, August 8. In consequence of Turkish attacks upon foreigners on the Asia Minor coast Greek warships bombarded Trebizond, Samsuh and other ports. The effect is unknown, —Reuter Service.
