WELSH COAL.
HEAVY SLUMP IN VALUE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, August 8. The Cardiff correspondent of the Daily Chronicle states that the coal output has outstripped the demand, and a heavy slump in values is feared, which will result in the closing of many pits. Last week steam coal fell to £2 a ton, and a /all to nearly 30s is impending. Fifty thousand are already idle as a result of the coal strike, and it is feared many thousands will join them, but it is hoped the reduction in price will enable Welsh exporters to recover the South American markets.
