LABOR IN AMERICA.
POST-WAR PROBLEMS. BY Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 13, 9.15 p.m. New York, June 13. Ip a statement prior to the opening ef the .American Federation of Labor convention at Denver, Colorado, to-day, Mr. Samuel Gompers (the president) Baid the convention will deal with the great post-war issues threatening organised Labor. The future was in the balance, and the die must be cast one way or another. The major problem is unemployment; it is estimated 5,000,000 are out of work. Other subjects for discussion will be a movement to crush Labor and destroy their spirit by open shop; disarmament, and -the Irish question. The latter’s sympathisers are in two factions, which demand American recognition of the Irish Republic, the withdrawal of British troops, and the immediate payment of the British debt of 9,000,000,000 dollars to America.—Aua.-N.Z.
