Frewin, G. B. Gamlin and F. Spurdie. It was resolved that the reserves committee should inspect the entrance to tlie football ground, with power to make any necessary alterations. ,It was decided to inspect the reserves with a view to planting and beautifying the grounds and to order trees when ready for planting; also to have all necessary repairs to gates and fences carried out. It was decided that twenty per cent, of the gate money taken at. the football ground be charged as from June 1 to the Inglewood Football Club.

BOROUGH COUNCIL. The Borough Council met on Wednesday, Bth instant. Present: The Mayor (Mr. J. R. Sutherland), Crs. D. T. Egarr, W. H. Eagar, R. Fawcett, R. J. Frewin, A. B. Gamlin and F. Spurdie. The Mayor was nominated to represent tHe council on the Taranaki Progress League. Cr. Fawcett was elected deputy Mayor. Committee reports were adopted. A motion that the finance and Town Hall committees go into the matter of revising tlie charges now levied for th© use of the hall and report at the next council meeting was carried. The council then went into committee. On resuming it was notified that the council had decided to increase the salaries of the electrical engineer and the town clerk, in each case by £25 per annum. Cr. W. H. Eagar gave notice of motion, to rescind the resolution in regard to dates of meetings of the works and' electric light committees, so that they might both be held on the one night. THE STOCK MARKET The weather for the sale at the Farmers’ Co-op. yards on Wednesday waa» fairly good, and there was a good attendance, but owners at present evidently are also mostly holders, for there was but a small muster of stock to offer, calves only being in good numbers. It was noticeable that the etocld generally were not in promising condition to face the rigors of winter. Dairy stuff is in growing demand as the new milking season approaches, though, prices are down compared with last year’s quotations. Heifer calves showing Jersey strain were, as they have been for some time, well ahead of all other competitors in their class, and they sold at from £3 18s 6d to £4 16s. Other heifer calves, in low condition, made 10s. steer calves from 13s to 158, •cows '(spring calvera) £7 10s to £lO 10s, stores 25s to 40s, springing heifers up to £l2 10s, f.m. ewes (in lamb) 9s 9d.

PRESBYTERIAN BIBLE CLASSES. Such a gathering of the members of the Presbyterian Bible classes of Taranaki as was held in Inglewood on Friday, the 3rd instant, must surely establish a record for that organisation. Representatives were present from all the chief centres of the province. Over 300 were present at the ToVn Hall, the rallying centre, and Knox Church was crowded at each meeting during the day and evening. In the forenoon the Rev. J. D. Smith (Manaia) addressed the delegates, and after lunch the roll call was taken by the Rev. J. McKenzie (Stratford). A presentation on behalf of the whole district was made to the Rev. J. L. Gray, in recognition of his magnificent services to the Bible class movement throughout the whole Dominion, as well as in Taranaki, and opportunity was taken to wish him “God speed” in his intended departure for India, whither he purposes going shortly, with Mrs. Gray, to continue his services. The subject “Is the Bible class movement reaching its objective?” was also dealt with and discussed. A feature of this rally, new to such meetings, was introduced—viz., a seven-a-side football coiftest played on the Inglewood ground during the afternoon, teams from Eltham, Inglewood, Patea and New Plymouth taking part. In the first round New Plymouth beat Eltham by 12 to 5, and Inglewood won from Patea by 8 to -nil. In the final Inglewood scored 9 to New Plymouth’s nil. All the games were keenly contested, and created much interest. They are likely to become a regular part of future programmes. After tea in the hall, Mr. W. J. Maine (Auckland) addressed a packed assembly in Knox Church, in a powerful and telling manner, and so concluded a great and most satisfactory rally. Before the visitors started, op their return journeys, supper was served in the Town Hall. On every side high encomiums were bestowed on the ladies of Knox Church for their splendid services and exceptionally good organisation, Miss Johnston, as head of the ladies’ committee, being specially mentioned.
