THE DOMINION CENSUS. Owing to the disturbance of normal conditions concerning the growth of the population of the Dominion in consequence of the war, it is impossible to make any accurate estimate as to what the growth would have been had the war not taken place. At the time the previous census was taken (1916) there were many thousands of men absent from the country on war service, so the population was shqrt to that extent, while in the recent census the returned soldiers helped to swell the numbers, though allowance has to be made for those whose deaths are attributable to the war, and these may be set down at approximately 17,000. Notwithstanding this grievous loss of the Dominion’s manhood the population has increased,
