BRITAIN THE LOSER IF INTERNATIONAL DEBTS CANCELLED. Paris, March 2. Great Britain's debt to the United States Government, due within five years, as at January, 1920, was £867,000,000. Great Britain’s outstanding loans to Allies (including France, Russia, Italy, Belgium. Servia, Portugal. Roumania, Greece, and others) is di1,731,000,000. Were the proposal to cancel all Allied war debts carried out Great Britain would be the loser by £B6-1.000,000. Russia’s debt to Groat Britain is £568,000,000. Therefore, even if this was eliminated from the international ledger as uncollectable, Great Britain would stand to lose £200,000,000 by the wiping out of the debts. LOST ART RE DISCOVERED. SECRET ON ANCIENT GLASS IN RHEIMS CATHEDRAL. M. Richard Burgsthal, a master glassworker, claims to have re-discovered the qualities of ancient glass, one of the glories of Rheims Cathedral before it was mutilated. It is knowii that its peculiar luminosity results from the fact that the two surfaces of the glass are not parallel, the convex and concave surfaces receiving the light, in prismatic angles, an effect which in modern glass is tb a certain extent recaptured by painting. M. Burgsthal and M. Fayet, for whom the. former executed 30 windows of perfect coloring and luminosity for the ancient abbey of Fontroide, are ready to offer to France, says a Reuter’s Paris message, the entire reconstitution of the wonderful stained glass windows of Rheims.
