SECRET ON ANCIENT GLASS IN RHEIMS CATHEDRAL. M. Richard Burgsthal, a master glassworker, claims to have re-discovered the qualities of ancient glass, one of the glories of Rheims Cathedral before it was mutilated. It is knowii that its peculiar luminosity results from the fact that the two surfaces of the glass are not parallel, the convex and concave surfaces receiving the light, in prismatic angles, an effect which in modern glass is tb a certain extent recaptured by painting. M. Burgsthal and M. Fayet, for whom the. former executed 30 windows of perfect coloring and luminosity for the ancient abbey of Fontroide, are ready to offer to France, says a Reuter’s Paris message, the entire reconstitution of the wonderful stained glass windows of Rheims.
