In the qualifying round at Glen Eagles there were 113 competitors, and the sixteen to qualify played a round apiece on the King’s course of 18 holes, and on the Queen’s course of nine holes. The Americans were outclassed. Havers 31; Ockenden, Ray, Braid 32; Kirkwood, Mitchell 34; Massey 36; Duncah, Taylor, East 37, were the beat scores over the Queen’s course. Ockenden, Ray. Vardon 72; Massey, 74; Braid, Havers 75; Kirkwood 76; Mitchell 77, were the best over the King’s course. Ockenden and Ray are leading, with Havers third, Braid sixth, Vardon seventh, Kirkwood thirteenth, Massey fourteenth. Kirkwood had difficulty with his long shots, owing to a sprained wrist.
