| ,- -r SPY WHO STOLE ANOTHER MAN'S IDENTITY. . The arrest in San Francisco of Theodore Schude has disclosed an amazing story, writes the Paris co-respondent of the Daily Express:. Schude, who confesses to having heen a German spy, stole the identity of Lieutenant Arthur M. Kincaid in order to further his own ends. The real Lieutenant Kincaid is a young man whose mother was singing ( in opera in Paris in 1803, when she attracted the admiration of Count von Hohenhorst, an official of the German Kaiser's household then visiting Paris. Their relations were unfortunate, for the young singer soon after left for America, and there was married to Bernard Kincaid, of Indiana, some months later. She became the mother of a boy, who was named Arthur M. Kincaid. When the boy grew up, according to American ar-my intelligence oflicers, the mother told him the true story of his parentage, and ho resolved to avenge the wrong that had been done her. Kincaid enlisted in 1914 while a student at the University of Chicago and when the United States declared war went overseas as a lieutenant, and won the Croix de Guerre at Verdun. After the armistice he was detained in Berlin. He secured leave. »nd, clad in civilian clothes, visiterf Gruenwand, the hohenhorst home, and killed the count. . Kincaid afterwards escaped *o the Dutch border. Later, he collapsed, and was taken to a Belgian hospital. It is believed that while Kincaid was 'a fugitive and delirious, Schude, then a German secret service man, stole his papers and assumed his identity. After many and' varied hospital experiences, Kincaid was repatriated, and Jinally reached a New York hospital. Schude reported at Brest as an American casual, was sent to New York, and honourably discharged, and later re-en-listed. He was sewing at the barracks of the 44th Infantry when he waa arrested.
