THE MARRIAGE LAW.

THE COMMITTEE AND PUBLICITY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In the House of Representatives this afternoon, ou the motion of the Hon. E. P. Lee, the Marriage Amendment Bill was referred to the special committee set up to consider it. In reply to Mr. W. T. Jennings (Waitomo), the Premier said it would be for the committee to decide whether the proceedings should be open to the Press, Personally, he had no objection.

A DIOCESAN RESOLUTION. Wellington, Sept. 2f). The standing committee of the diocese of Waiapu passed the following resolution: "While it is competent for the State to make its own code for legally valid marriages, the proposed amendment of the Marriage Act appears, as at present worded, to make it penal for any religious society to set before its own members the ideal of marriage contained in the Gospel". This committee respectfully begs Parliament not to impose this restriction on religious liberty."
