The Borough General Manager (Mr. F. T. Bellringer) said the Council was compelled to apply for au. adjournment as the jiotice received Was insufficient, and also because of the illness of the tramways manager. >
The Commissioner said an adjournment would probably have to be made. The representatives of the Union asked how long this would delay the matter, and pointed out that their present agreement had expired months ago. In reply to the Commissioner,' Mr. Bellringer said he thought a month would meet the wishes of the Council. It was impossible to discuss the matter of conditions in the absence of the tramways majiagef, though ho thought that probably before the next sitting tho Council would be able to come to an agreement with the men on the matter of wages. Ultimately it was decided that a sine die adjournment be made, the matter to be called on at any time at seven days' notice. The Borough Council's representative said that probably a meeting with the men would be arranged within a fortnight to- settle the wages application.
