After having bad luck to lose the Hack Steeplechase with Mattock, Mr. J. B. Gaisford made a mistake over closing time for the, acceptances for the Marangal Steeplechase. Disappointments never come singly. Volo always races best when fresh, and even tire steadier of 9.9 failed to stop him on Saturday. Sea Sprite is not nearly ready yet, but I noticed her finishing up strongly in the HailBay Welter the second day. ste may do better at Waverley next month. Miss Love looked fit ..enough to run for a Kingdom on Saturday, but she Is most unreliable, and gave a wretched exhibition. She may race more generously in the autumn. Not generally known that Maniahern is a qualified hunter. He would have been a handy horse to have tackled the hunteTs at the J>orth Taranakl and Manawatu Hunt meetings.

Pretty Bobby was given anotter flutter over the small stickß on Saturday, and a-s at Marlon, ran most unkindly. Percy Coffey should keep him for flat racing.

White Banger, who has raced most consistently this season, ran two fine races at Wanganui, but he had no-earthly chance of conceding a speedy customer like Hyginas 19lbs on the second day. Zola's chances of seeing out three m'.les over ocuntry were not very promising, and after jumping very amateurishly he was back pedalling quitd a mile from the en<l or tne journey. 'lt is a pity to spoil a good hurdler by arking him to do the impossible.

The finish proved too much Jot Horo Karauiti, who placed Martian Miss, Yankee Dan, and Stutter, with Pakaraka fourth.
