The wheat market is quiet; only a. small quantity has been released. Flour is meeting with good Inquiry for all available supplies. Oats are quiet. La Platas on spot, 50s Gd to 535. Beans and peas are steadily held; prices unchanged WOOL SALES. London, Sept. 23. At the wool sales, merinos were unchanged, shabby and lower sorts were withdrawn; crossbrods below 48 quality were totally neglected. Sixty per cent, of the catalogue was withdrawn owing to the poor demand and the sales hn.ve been curtailed by a week. The Bradford tops market is exceedingly quiet. Quotations are irregular. 1 . Sixtyfours quality, 88d; flfty-slxes, 58d; fifties, 48d; forty-sixes, 31d. Antwerp, Sept/ 24. At the Australian wool sale 12,400 bales were offered and 700 sold at 5 to 10 per cent, below the last sale. There were numerous buyers and good competition for good scoureds. The next sale will be held on December 7. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Wellington, have received the following. cable from their London house, under date of 21st September Wool Sales; The number of buyers is fair, and competition is irregular, and tke selection fair. Continental buyers are the principal operators. As compared w'th last sales, closing rates, Merino wools, super, greasy, 10 per cent, lower; Merino wools of other descriptions 15 per cent, lower; crossbred wools, fine quality, greasy, 5 per cent, lower; crossbred wools, medium quality, greasy, 10 per cent, lower; crossbred wools, coarse, greasy, neglected crossbred wools, scoured, 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, lower."
LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency (Hawera) report:— At Opunake, on Monday, we hr.d a good yarding, particularly of dairy cattle. For tho latter bidding was brisk for good sorts. We quote: Fat and forward cows £9 17s, store cows £5 IGs to £6 14s, dairy cows £l2 to £lO 10s, springing heifers, Jersey, £2l 5s to £2l 10a, other breeds (good sorts) £l6 10s to £lB, others £l2 to £l4 10s. On Tuesday, at' Mnnala, we quote: Fresh conditioned cows to £8 12s 6d, medium ditto to £5, springing heifers (good quality) to £2O, others £lO 10s to £l3 sa. At Palmer Road, on Friday, we had a fallyarding of all classes of stock. Bidding was fairly brisk throughout, and we disposed of the whole yarding at late quotations. We quote: Fat and forward cows £8 10s to ,£l2 lis, medium ditto £5 5s to £6 ss, others to £4, yearling heifers (good quality) £5 12s, others to £4, springing heifers (good sorts) £l7 tc £2O, others £l2 5b to £l4 10s. WAIKATO STOCK MARKET. The Farmers' Cq-operative AuctioneeHng Co. Ltd., report:— At Hamilton, on Thursday, September 23, We had a heavy yarding of cattle and a light yarding of sheep. Business was dull and much of the entry failed to reach the owner's reserves. It was hoped that the recent warm rains would have infused a better tone into the stock market, so far It must be admitted no Improvement is observable. It is, however, still confidently believed that with the now assured spring growth this cannot be much delayed. Cattle generally show the adverse effects of the long winter. Beef was keenly competed for and made up to £l6 for cows. No oi beef was yarded. Empty store cows were In fair demand up to a certain figure. Values ranged between £6 7s 6d and £7 15s. Several good lines of 2 and 2i/,-year steers were penned, but mostly passed in. Well bred sorts Of this class made £B, 10s, 2-year Shorthorn empty heifers rough in quality sold to £6 2s 6d, 15-month heifers Jersey cross £7 15s, 18-month steers of which 1 class there was a good entry made to £5 12s 6d, but the bulk remained unsold. Heifers of the same age realised from £3 58 to £5 2s Gd. The entry of sheep was small and bidding was anything but spirited. Medium ewes sold to 35s Gd, ewes with lambs at foot £2 ss. The pig market was on a par with the previous week, and everything penned was quitted. Small sows in pig sold at £9, baconers £0 ss, porkers £4 4s to £5 ss, weaners 3(is to £2 lis, freslidropped calves realised from Ga to 225.
FARMERS' CO-OP REPORT. Tho Farmers' Co-op. Society of New Zealand, Ltd., report:— On Monday, 20th., Inst., we held our usual fortnightly sale at Okaiawa. The yarding comprised mainly of dairy stock, for which there was a good demand, and practically all were sel dat. the hammer. We quote: Forward cows £9 2s 6d, best dairy helfors,
; dose to .profit £26, others £ll XOs to £l9 10a, later sorts to £lO. i At Eltham, on Wednesday, owing to the ' boisterous weather, there wag not a large entry. For store stock the demand' was good prices all round showed a slight improvement. In the dairy pons the demand was good for anything showing quality, other sorts being more or less neglected. We quote: Empty ewes 30s, forward cows from £l2 to £l4 10s, others £6 to £lO, weaner heifers, mixed well-grown, to £5 15s, steers to £3 10s, dairy heifers, close up, good, to £l9 10s, others £lO upwards. At Hawera, on Thursday, there was only a fair yarding of store cattle and sheep, the dairy pens, however, were well filled, prices in tho store pens showed an upward tendency. Tho demand in the store pens was for quality, late and low conditioned sorts were not eagerly sought after. We quote: Store pigs £4, weaners 355, suckers, 15s to fat ewes 38b 6d, fat and forward cows to £l4 7s Gd, others £9 to £ll, old and lighter to £B, small yearling heifers, good colors, £4 to £4 Is, steers to £3 13s, Jersey yearling heifers to £l2 153, dairy heifers, Jersey to £2B, others up to £23' according to Quality, best dairy cows to £2B. At Waverley, on Friday, there was a entry, prices were as follows: Suckers 21s, weaners to 3Gs, small stores £3 to £8 9s, fat ewes to £2 Is, small hoggets 22s 6d, empty hoifers to £6, yearling steers to £4 10s, dairy heifers £lO to £l9 15s. At Westfleld fat stock market on Wednes 7 day, beef was penned in average numbers and sold under keen competition, advancing m prices on late quotations. Choico oxen sold to 3s per 1001b., prime oxen £2 10s to £:{ 2s per 1001b,, rough and inferior oxen £2 7s to £2 14s per 1001b,, cow and heifer beef sold at froan £2 7s to £2 Ifis per ltNilb. No extra heavyweight cattle were penned. Steers sold at from, for best, £l9 15s to £24 17s 6d, others £l4 10s to £l9 i2s Gd, small and unfinished £8 to £l4 7s Gd, cows and heifers sold at from £8 to £l7 2s Gd. Calves were penned in' average numbers, and sold at advanced prices on last week's quotations: Runners £S 15s to £l2 lljs, vealers. heavy £6 5s to £7 15s, medium £5 to £G 4s, light £3 5s to £4 IDs, smaller £2 Is to £3 4s, small and fresh-droppod, also improved, selling at from 8s to £2, Sheep were penned in large numbers, and sold at late quotations.
