THE NEW LOAN.

BILL READY THIS WEEK. THE AMOUNT NOT CERTAIN. (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. As stated by the Prime Minister in the House on Friday night, the Loan Hill Is to be introduced during the week. Various surmises have been made concerning the amount for which the Government seeks authority to borrow, arid the figure has been placed as high as £20,000,000. It is not possible,to make any very accurate, forecast of what «um the Government intends to seek from the country without an idea of the purposes to which it is to ,be applied, Soldier settlement""will be one of these, while public works, hydro-electricity, and possibly ordinary land settlement, will have to be catered for.

The £20,000,000, it may be definitely stated, is decidedly wide of the mark, being a very considerable over-estimate of the amount which will appear in the Bill, Past precedentsywould point to £10,000,000 being a much more probable figure, though the amount may possibly be somewhat larger.
