SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS.
WANT SOLDIERS' BENEFITS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In reply to a deputation of South African veterans asking for a shire of the repatriation settlement and pensions benefits, to-day, the Prime Minister admitted that the veterans were not as well treated as the returned soldiers but he did not see how the Department could provide for the South African men until they disposed of the others. They had a claim on the country. The Minister for Lands (the Hon. D. H. Guthrie) said the returned soldiers \»me first. The sum of £22,000,000 had already been spent, and he could spend as much more for the benefit of the country.
