:■ i BERTHING OP PORT PIRIE. ' LARGEST LINER AT MOTUROA. The liner Port Pirie, which, arrived off New Plymouth about 11.30 yesterday, made a good trip from Sydney, which was left on Sunday morning. The ship, which is of 7318 tons, is the largest to berth at the New Plymouth wharf, and the vessel was brought alongside expeditiously by the harbormaster (Captain Waller). The Port Pirie is of 10,780 tons dead weight, and her carrying capacity is 14,800 tons. The loading of the vessel was commenced during the afternoon. The consignment which is to be shipped consists of 40,000 freight carcases of meat, composed of allotments from the Taranaki Farmers' Smart Road works, and Messrs Borthwick and Sons' Waitara works. By the Port Pirie the Taranaki Producers' Company will ship 8000' crates of cheese from the Moturoa stores.' The vessel will be in port about five days. This is her first trip to New Plymouth, and she is actually taking the place of the Port Alma, which was not able to take away the cargo owing to bunker trouble.
The Port Pirie (of the C. and D. line) has a length of 475 ft, with 59ft beam, and was drawing about 20ft aft and 16ft forward when she.came in yesterday. Captain A. West, in command, has associated with him the following offiofficers: Chief, Mr. W. J. Enwright; second, Mr, G. Lewis; temporary second, Mr. Jones; third, Mr. B. Darling. , The engineering staff is composed of the following:—Chief engineer, Mr. Bridget; second, Mr. Bentleyj third, Mr. WeVb; fourth, Mr. Waste; fifth, Mr. Woodrow Wilson; sixth, Mr. Milhurn; chief refrigerating engineer, Mr. Duffy; second, Mr. Cleghorn. It is understood Captain West retires from the command on reaching Wellington, to take up the position of Marine Superintendent, and will be succeeded by Mr. Enwright. Mr. Lewis will assume the position of first officer, and his place will be taken by Mr. Jones. There were a number of passengers by the vessel from Australia.
