WANGANUI RACES. FIRST DAY'S RESULTS. VOW WINS SPRING HANDICAP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. The Wanganui J.C. Spring meeting commenced to-day in wet weatfcer, and the course was holding. The totallsator handled £46,»8G 10s/ against £35,410 on the first day of the same meeting last yea;. Results;— DURIE HACK HANDICAP.—CruceIIe (McCormac) 1, Kareao 2, Big Push 3. Also ran; Sea Sprite, Active, Coolpan, Voluble, Stutter, Empyrean, Farce, Smoke, . Gay Lady, Malingerer. Won by a length and a half, Time, 1.17. MAIDEN HANDlCAP.—Tenterfleld (O'Shea) 1, All Cerise 2, Maropa 3. Also ran: Gay I'atfon, Catalinl, Airaber Tips*, Watercall, Wolthea, Country Air, Equitable. THE RACING DESCRIBED. (By Wire.—Special to News.) Wanganui, Last Night. Amber Tips was the only withdrawal from the opening event, the Durie Hack, fourteen facing tile starter. "Empyrean was badly left. Stutter was the first to become prominent, leading out from the barrier frOm Smoke, Crucelle, Malingerer, and Coolpan. Big Push showed up in the front at the three furlongs peg, but a little further on Crucelle was out in the van, and showed tte way Into the straight from Big Push, Malingerer, and Smoke. Once In the good going Crucelle drew away, and stalling off a challenge by Kareao, prevailed by a length and a half. Big Push was hair a length away third. Malingerer was fourth, nnd was followed by Voluble and Vasilkov, with Gay Lady last. The ' Maiden Handicap attracted ten runners, the withdrawals being Guiration, Voluble, and Clem. All moved off togcttcr, All Cerise being first out, soon to give to Maropa, who led All Cerise, Tenterfield, and Amber Tips along the back. With a couple of furlongs gone Aouber Tips had run up level with Maropa, Tenterfield, and All Cerise. At the home beud Tenterfield was showing tho way to All Cerise, Amber Tips, and Maropa, Hie Australian-bred gelding going on to win comfortably by a couple of lengths from the local Air Cerise, with Maropa a length away. Amber Tips was fourth, and Catallni mid Country Air next. A bare two dividend field lined up at the post for the Wanganui Guineas, among the Kite scratctings being Askari, Demand, and Maropa. They moved off to a fair start, Little River assuming the-lead going out of the straight to Raceful, Listowel, Humbug, Insurrection, and Duo. So they raced around to the six furlong peg, where Gray moved up on Duo, nnd the order at thi halt mile was Little River, Duo, Listowel, Raceful, and Humbug, with Insurrection last. At the three furlongs, Little River held a commanding lead from the field, but they began to close up, and turning into the straight, Duo was in front of Little River. Humbug and Racefill were together at tte bottom of the straight. Humbug set out after Duo, but the latter maintained the lead to win comfortably by one length from the favorite, with Little River one and a half lengths away. Listowel was close up fourth, being followed by Insurrection and Raceful in that order. The time was slow, although the pace was on over the first half-mile. All started in the Okehu Hurdles. Mill o' Cowrie acted as the early pacemaker, and led past fee stand from Otauru Kid, Endure, Zola, Pisher, Gladful, and White Ranger. Along the back the field bundled promisingly, but at tire three furlongs White Ranger drew out and was first into the straight, and going on despite Gladful's challenge, got the verdict by two lengths, with Endure twe and a, half lengths further away. Then came Fisher, Zola, and Otauru Kid. Poithogue was last all the way. There were nine starters in the Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase, which provided c fine exhibition of jumping. Tirau and Camp Guard were togetrt: at the stand double the. first lime, Kurnalpi, Nicomar, and Ngakanui following in that order. There was verv lltt.'e change recorded over the next mile," Manhattan and Mattock being well at the liaek of the leading division. Mattock and Ngakanui closed on Camp Guard and Nicomar half a mile from home, Mattock leading Into tho itralulit from Njpikoaui, Camp Guard and

Manhattan. Mattock appeared to havo the issue beyond doubt at the distance, when Manhattan came through with a rattle and pipped Mattock right on the post, winning a fine finish by a neck. Ngakanul was two lengths away, and then came at intjrvais Camp Guard, Tirau, and Applaud. Otter got badly left and then fell at the first fence. The Spring Handicap attracted ten runners. Hurry Up led out from the tapes from Depredation, Rose Queen, Volo, and Trespass. Volo had been taken to the front at the five furlongs, being followed by Rose Queen, Hurry Up, Tirana, and Trespass. Simon had moved up into second berth when heads were turned for tome, Volo was' going along easily in front at the bottom of the straight and won from Trespass by two lengths. Depredation f neck away. Then came Simon, Rose Queen, Oratress, ami Ralland. The scratching of Crucelle, Farce, Khartoum, , and Mangawal reduced the field for the Putiki Hack Handicap to eleven. Warmwee was first away, leading Admyra, Piro Piro, and Army Service out of the straight,and along the back, where Array Service took «P the running, with Stelpaul and Maniahera next and Isabel last. Across the top Een Bolt went into the van, and led into tt'c straight, to win by a good length from Rebuff. Jfa.nlahera was three parts of a length away, being followed home by Army Service, Ngata, Isabel, and Warrawee. The concluding event, the Plying Handicap, attracted ten runners. Slmonidos was badly left when the tapes wore skied. Swance 3ivcr set out to make the pnee early in the licre, leading Income and Egmont Park at the head of a bunch. Income took charge going across the top leading .into the straight from Hiss Gold, Kinsem, and Hymestra. Miss Gold challenged Incomo at the distance, to win by a neck. Hymestra was two lengtha away in third place, and the next to finish were Egmont Park and Kinsem. Swanee River broke down.
