PERIL IN CALIFORNIA, SOME PERTINENT VIEWS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright- • Received Sept 23,12.15 a.m. \ ::» H Tokio, Sept. gl. Representative Japanese express Jhe opinion that there is/no hope of a permanent solution of, the California question until after the Presidential election in the United States. Viscount Kato, in a statement, said that for America, which constantly advocated the cause of righteousness, to declare without giving proper reasons, its intention to deprive Japanese of the fruits of many years' painstaking labor, is an act "we can never overlook.)' That America of qll countries should' resort to an act so cruel and inhumane was really inexplicable. Viscount Kaneko, interviewed, stated that if California passes an antiJapanese Bill, California will write an indelible impression on the minds of every man-and woman in Japan. "But," he added, "I do not predict war as a result. If -this action is taken all friendships that have grown between'the two peoples in the last sixty-four years will be wiped out in one day" ' M. Inouyo, Governor of the Bank of Japan, stated that if the Japanese in America expect the same rights as Americans they should follow the manners and customs of the country, and try to assimilate them, and refrain from unnecessarily wounding the feelings of Americans.
It is reported that seven organisations have planrie'd to exchange views over the California difficulty, and cable their conclusions to Mr. Samuel Gomperg (President of the American Federation of Labor). The Government continues its 'policy of preventing mass meetings.—Aus,-N.Z. Cable Assn.
