Promotions in the Lauds 'Department include: Messrs, C. 15. Archibald, of North Auckland, to be chief clerk and arid receiver, Dunedin; W. S. Hardy, of Wellington, chief clerk and receiver, Nelson; J). Smith, of Invereargill; chief clerk and receiver, North Auckland; J. MacDonahl, of Dunedin, chief clerk and receiver, Invereargill. Mr. ,T. J. Walklate, until now the general manager of the Auckland Municipal electric tramways, has been appointed Acting-Town Clerk of Auckland, with Mr. J, Y. Warren, now clerk of the office, as his first assistant. The Society's rooms bore a bright appearance, with the floral decorations which had been tastefully ai ranged. The president; of the society (Mrs. Burgess) .handed to Nurse Williams a wristlet watch' on behalf of the committee, and also made a personal gitt to the recipient. Nurse Williams replied briefly, thanking the committee, and also expressed the belief that in her successor, Nurse Peterson, the society hod one who would ably carry- on the work.
