TEAM FROM ENGLAND. ' PROPOSED VISIT REVIEWED. By Telegraph.—rress Association. Wellington, Last Night. At a special meeting to-night of the Wellington Cricket Association, it was decided to guarantee £IOOO towards the expenses of bringing a team from England during the present season. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Cricket Club was held in the Soldiers' Club last night, when Mr. W. C. Weston presided over a sparse attendance of members. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The committee, in furnishing a report and balance-sheet for the first time in the last Ave years, stated that so far as its finances go, the club, despite heavy drains on Its resources for material, is Sn a Tery sound position. The balance being £9 53 Bd. Except for the usual • outlay on bats and balls for ;he coming season, expenses would not be very heavy, and the estimate of £2O placed on the material in hand was a conservative I one. During the past season, the club entered a Thursday team, and Saturday A and ! B team in the competitions. The two former teams were successful In annexing the | championship in each competition. The Club also supplied nine members to the .representative teams. The trophy kindly donated by Mr. T. n. Bates for the most successful bowler during the season wis won by Mr. G. E. Dinniss, who took 20 wickets at an average cost of 47 runs. In conclusion, the comimitteo wished again to stress the advisability durir? the coming season, particularly i in view of the impending visit of the English I team, of players taking advantage of the opportunities for evening practices. Further, it was desirable that a practice wicket be ; prepared with the utmost dispatch, so that members may commence getting into form straight away. The committee thanked members for their co-operation during tho past season, and looked forward during the coming one to continued success. The balance-sheet showed receipts to have been. £57, the principal items being playing members subscriptions £42, honorary members £5 ss, OU Boys' Cricket Club, us» of material £!i; balance of old clubs- funds ; 0t..-, £5 2s 2d. The. expenditure included material and repairs £D2 _]ss, i:3 in maintenance of wicket £4 lss Jd lose for wickets £4 2s. The chairman expressed regret at such a small attendance. Although the tour of the ; English team was abandoned, he thought that they could look forward to a good season's cricket, providing that satisfactorf arrangements could be made for practice wickets, no paid a tribute to (he excellent work performed -by the secretary, and also expressed regret at the absence of Mr. Whittle througl' ill-health. 'He then moved the adoption of tho report and balance-sheet. This was seconded by Mr. P. E. Stainton. During the discussion, it was stated that 43 players had paid their subscriptions It was considered that the season bad been a very satisfactory one both financially and from a playing point of view. The report was adopted.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers woro elected as follows: Patron Mr. E. Wlatle; president, Mr. H. A. Stratford; vice-presidents, Itev, S. 55, Osborne. Dr. Walker, and Messrs. T. H. Bates and It A. Large; clnb captain, Mr. E. Whittle; secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. Quiclifall; auditor, Mr. E. Lash; delegates to Taranaki Cricket Association, Messrs. Lawry and secretary Management Committee, Messrs. r. E. Stainton, G. H. Saunders, E. Lash, V. Elliott, A C Lawry, P. Shephard, G. E. Dinnlss; vicepresident to the North Taranaki Association Rev. s. s. Osborne. The question of an opening day's preparation of a practice wicket was deferred to the Management. Committee. A vote of sympathy was expressed with Mr. E. Wbitte in his illness, and hope was expressed that he would soon be restored to his usual health. Tie secretary was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his services during the past year. Tho meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair.
