BOROUGH COUNCIL.

ORDINARY MEETING. The New Plymouth Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. Jas. Clarke), Crs. J. W. Hayden, F. J. Hill, V. Griffiths, W. S. Short, R. Parkin, and A. S|. Brooker. The engineer advised that the railage rates on tar per ton from Wanganui had increased from 16s Id to ISs 7d, and on Napier gravel from 7s to 8s Id. This would make the cost of tar lljd gallon at the station yard, and gravel at 19s 8d per cubic yard. It was decided that providing cement is available the engineer proceed with the erection of tar wells of a holding capacity of 24,000 gallons. Reporting on the hydro-electric extensions (contract No. 1), the engineers (Blair Mason and Lee) stated that three shifts were worked per day, an average of eleven men being employed.
