The Washington correspondent of The Times states that it is understood that Japan is putting out of commission all liue-of-battle war vessels more than ten years old. .Japan is building superDreadnouglits with a displacement of 40,000 tons, with a speed of thirty ktfbts and with a main battery of eight 1(5ineh guns. The Japanese are not building electric-driven ships Japan's battle fleet in 1928 is expectel to include eight battleships (mounting 48 14-inch guns, 32 Ifl-inch guns, and \vitl> a displacement of 25S,Sfi0tons), and six battle-cruisers (mounting 32 14-inch guns and JO Ifi-incli guns, with a total broadside (ire weight of 7fi,004 pounds.) By 1027 it is expected that Japan's building programme will be completed with twelve battleships anil.twelve bat-tle-cruisers added to the fleet. There have been some reports that the programme will be delayed, owing to lack of steel, but it is understood that ihere is sufficient steel.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
