PROSECUTION WITHDRAWN. , By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, August 3. The Customs Department issued the following statement to-day: "The cases against Harry Tallerman and Edmund Russell Jones, importers, of Auckland, have been withdrawn, as the defendant is fully satisfied that there was no intent of fraud, and that merely a technical breach of the Act was committed. The cases were proceeded with in error." THE INDUSTRIAL UNREST. Auckland, August 3. At a public meeting, convened by the Welfare League to-night, the following resolution was carried: "That tliis pub-' lie meeting, feeling that the prevailing social and industrial unrest in the Dominion is a matter of public conoern, and being desirous in the general interests of seeing better relations established between employers and workers, affirms the desirability of the Government' calling a joint industrial conference, representative of those actively en» gaged in the main industries of the country on the lines outlined by the Welfare League." I CHRISTCHURCH CIVIL ACTION. Christchurch, AugUßt 3. The civil action in which Charles Theimer, an*alicn enemy subject, proceeded against Allen Hopkins to recover £350, the deposit paid in respect of the purchase of a house, and damages for alleged misrepresentation, was concluded to-day. The jury found in favor of the defendant, and judgment was entered up accordingly, with costs.
