WORK IN CLIFTON COUNTY. (By Telegraph—Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington, Last Night. Mr. W. T. Jennings, member for Waitomo, has been informed by the Public Works Department that vigorous efforts have been made to complete the metalling of the Mount Messenger road. Over eight chains of the worst portion have been metalled, and more would have been done but for unfavorable weather conditions. Good progress has been made wit'h the tunnel on the Awakino Upper Valley Road, by the >so-.operative ga;ig which took the contract. Thtw was a brief stoppage owing to a wages dispute, but the work is now proceeding well. Mr. •Jennings was informed that the Okahu* kura tunnel would have been completed by this time, but for the shortage of cement. It will be completed within three months. ' An Auckland tender ha 3 been accepted for the steel work of t.iio bridge over the Ongarue River, but owing to the difficulty in getting to the spot, the Department proposes to run a temporary tram-line to the tunnel. This will give the settlers improved access. ' ,
