This, the first important immigrant ship to arrive in New Zealand sincn the war, sailed from Liverpool about the end of May, and it is reported=,tnat Many of these girls are the sweethearts of New Zealand soldiers. The passenger list includes fifty for New Plymouth, but inquiries made yesterday by a Daily News reporter from the New Plymouth branch of the Labor Department, and also from the local agents of the shipping company, elicited no information concerning the passengers for this town. The New Plymouth agents of the Shaw, Savlll Company advised last evening that the ship will probably not berth till 8 O'cloclc on Monday morning. • A Press Association message from Wellington eays the Health Department has.* received advice that there are number of casep of scarlet fever on the Mahana. The cases and contacts will be placed in quarantine before the vessel berthp. IMMIGRANTS ARRIVE. PASSENGERS ON RUAHINE. The Ruahine, which arrived at Auck* land on Wednesday from Southampton, brought 558 passengers, including 414 third-class, the majority of whom were immigrants who had been nominated by friends and relatives resident la the Dominion. These latter were met by Mr. V. A. Mills, chief clerk in the Immigration Department in Wellington. Of the total number of passengers 372 are bound for southern districts. ——— —i ■ '"
