ONAERO HILL FATALITY.
VERDICT OF ACCIDENTAL DEATH,
An inquest was held at the New Plymouth Courthouse yesterday, before Mi\ T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., District Coroner] touching the death of Mrs. Laura Fredrica Ansford, who was the victim in th-; motor fatality on the Onaero Hill on Tuesday afternoon.
Edward Drake Ansford, the deceased's husband, said they were motoring to Urenui, and everything went well until they reached the Onaero Hill, when tliov met two cows at a bend in the road about a quarter way up the hill The road was narrow and wet. Witness, de-clutch ed and applied the foot-brake with the intention of holding the car. He did not stop the engine. The foot brake did not hold. The car began to run back, and witness then put on the emergency brake, but The car skidded and went over the cliff. The road was very greasy at this place- Witness then described how lie found his wife unconscious.
Dr. E. A. Walker said the body of the deceased was brought to the New Plymouth Hospital about 1.30 p.m. on tha 15th inst., and he described the injuries which had caused her death.
The Coroner returned a verdict of accidental death, and added a rider that the overturning of the car was purely accidental, and not in any way attributable to negligence on the' part of tha driver.
