ENGLISHMEN DEFEAT NEW SOUTH WALES. BY 18 POINTS TO 10. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.— copyright. London, June 10. By defeating New South Wales by 18 points to 10, before 60,000 spectators, the Engllshmcn proved conclusively that Saturday'.! failure did not truly reflect their skill. From the kick-on" the visitors played cautiously and strongly, fortifying their goal liy resolute and deadly tackling, which effectively smothered all efforts of New South Wales to break thro h. Visiting 'New South Wales' territory they threw Hie ball about cleverly, almost scoring on several occasions. They were soon rewarded, Gronow getting a goal from a penalty, and Hilton scoring a try, which Gronow converted, making the score 7 to nil. Buoyed up by this success, the Englishmen continued their invasions, Wagstaffe, Thomas. and other backs treating the spectators to brilliant passing movements. flronow kicked two more goals, one from a, mark, and on-i from a penalty, and prior to the lntcrva 1 Feasor got> a goal for New South Wales, after Burtfe hmffailed In several attempts. The scqjta* at v tho Interval was 11 to 2in favor of thfrfflngliahmen. In the second half, both teams gave exhlbtionl or fine passing rushes, play travelling over every inch of the field with lightning rapidity. New South Wales gamely strove to overtake their opponents in a ding-dong battle, hut luck was against them at the critical moment. Held scored a try and Gronow two more goals, bringing England's tally to 18, while tries by Farnsworth and Robinson, and a . goal by Norman, increased New South Wales' score to 10 when the final whistle blew—Aus.-N.Z.
