STRATFORD.

[Stratford Representative: V 7. 'j. Wilson, Broadway North. Telephone 338.] STRATFORD A. AND P. ASSN. May 14. The annual meeting of the Stratford A. and P. Association will be held tomorrow (Saturday). A large meeting is hoped for, as ways and means have to be discussed for improving the accommodation for cattle on the .Show Grounds, besides other important business bearing on the welfare of the Association. The membership of the Association has been well maintained in the past, but there is room for much greater support, and there exists to-day an urgent need for the whole-hearted support and interest of the farmers of the district. As is pointed out in the annual report it has become increasingly apparent that the accommodation for valuable stock is totally inadequate for its requirements, and the Society, In order to keep its place, with kindred societies, will have to seriously consider a scheme to meet the present day demands. While appreciating the support accorded in the past, the Association appeals *o breeders—especially horse breeders—to rally to its supoprt, and assist the Association to expand. The meeting takes place at 1.30 p.m. in the Parish Hall.

Dr. T- L. Paget, of Palmerston North, a former . resident of Stratford, is at present on a visit to the town. The annual meeting of the Stratford A. and P. Association will be held in the Parish Hall at 1.30 p.m. to-morrow (Saturday), and it is hoped that there will be a large attendance of members, as many important matters will be discussed. During the afternoon a presentation will be made to Mr. R. Dingle, the retiring president, who is not seeking re-election on account of his having removed from Stratford. During his term of office he has been an untiring worker for the Association and much of its present prosperity is due to his efforts.

As instancing the difficulties with which retailers are confronted these days, a local shopkeeper mentioned today that a line of cups and Saucers which eight months ago cost 10a pef dozen wholesale, now cost 2os per dozen. "If somebody isn't profiteering out of this, I'll eat mv hat," he added, "but the Board of Trade is satisfied to, waste its time trying to catch the retailers, when it should get at the real profiteers—the manufacturers and tho wholesalers."

The Hospital "Board has received £5 from Midhirst, as the result of the entertainment, in aid of the X-ray fund. There are still a few sums to come in from outlying districts, and when these are to hand the fund will be closed. T. Lamason's usual weekly sale is advertised for to-morrow (Saturday), when he will be selling furniture and sundries, also some live stock.
