HEROES RECOGNISED.

URENUI'S WAR MEMORIAL, A memorial to fallen soldiers was unroiled at Urenui on Sunday. The unveiling ceremony took place" in the afternoon, and a simple and impressive service was held, the ministers conducting it being the Rev. G. H. Gavin, the Rev. P. 15. Lawrence, and Mr. A. H. Gould. The singing of the hymn's was led by the combined choirs of the Anglican, Presbyterian and Methodist churches of Waitara and Urenui The music was provided by the Urenui orchestra, with Miss Marlow (Waitara) at the organ. Sir. W. T. Jennings, M.l\, unveiled the memorial, which is a granite obelisk of simple design. Mr. Jennings spoke of the cry for peace and brotherhood ivHile the newspapers showed every day that there was no peace in the hearts of men. It eoiild only come through a development of the spiritual side of our natures and a lessening of the greediness which was going on. Speaking of the memorial, Mr. Jennings paid a tribute to Mrs. J. Rockett, the honorary secretary of the memorial committee, and the others who had been instrumental in accomplishing this great work. While the memorial was being unveiled the returned soldiers stood at attention in a group. Bugler Walker sound-' ed the "Last Post." The memorial obelisk is inscribed as follows: "Erected by the residents of the .Urenui district in honor of the men who were killed in the Great War, 191411)18." The names of deceased soldiers who went from the district covered by the T'renui branch of the North Taranaki Patriotic Society are also inscribed, as follows:
