EVIDENCE AT THE INQUIRY. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyricht. Melbourne, March 12. Before the Northern Territory Commission Dr. Holms described the "Chinese quarter at Darwin as worse than the black quarters at Capetown. The housing conditions were so deplorable (•hat M per cent, of the Chinese death rate wart due to tuberculosis and the whole conditions were such as to bring the diseases of the East within reach of Darwin. The town became overrun with the .yellow fever mosquito and disaster was a weeklv possibility. Eventually, in default of the local authority taking action, the Administration demolished the hovels and covered the drinking wells. He also repatriated a number of Chinese and the mosquito tlisoppeared.-Aus.-NZ. Cable Assn Received March 12, US p.m ' Melbourne, March' 12.
