Received March 1:1, 12.10 a.m. Sydney, March 11. Sir R. \V- Richards had been ailing for the past twelve months. The papers eulogise his popularity, and refer to his term of office as town clerk and city engineer at Dunedin from 1905 to 1011. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

At the end of last year Sir R. W. Richards was appointed Lord Mayor of Sydney for a second term 'by nomination of the State Government after a tie in the City Council. For several years Sir R. W. Richards was town clerk and engineer in Dunedin. He was previously Lord Mayor of Sydney in 1914 and 1915, and he became Lord Mayor again last year, when Mr. English died suddenly. He was knighted this year.
