WAR ON PROFITEERING.
FIRST CASE IN WELLINGTON. CHARGE AGAINST A GROCER. By TelejTanh.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The first information under the new Board of Trade Act. anti-proflteering clause, laid against Bertie Smith, grocer, of Courtenay Place, was mentioned in the S.M. Court to-day.
It is alleged the defendant sold td Hazel Edith Carroll, a visitor from Auck« land, two bottles of Mellin's food at the unreasonably high price of 3s 6d a bottle. The indications are that the case will be keenly contested. The defendant is in« structing a solicitor to engage the tort* most counsel in Wellington.
An adjournment for a fortnight Win opposed by the Crown, but was granted by Mr. Page, S.M., in view of the fact that defendant was liable to u heavy pen.« alty.
