A SOLDIER'S CHARGES. , By Telegraph.—Prese Association. Dunedin, March 10The inquiry into the ease of. Donald M'lntosh, a returned soldier, ®%j,ng unsatisfactory treatment, "was ""Moulded to-day, save the taking of evidence, at Wellington by the Commissioner of Pensions to disprove the allegation that the pension was not granted until the inquiry was authorised. MR. SEMPLE LIBELLED. Wellington, March 10. After hearing the Semple v. M'Curdj charge, of publishing an untrue and defamatory statement calculated to influence the electors, the Magistrate convicted the defendant and fined him £5, with costs £4 10s.
PRISONERS RECAPTURED. Whakatane, March 10. The two prisoners, who escaped by seizing the policeman's motor car, were recaptured at Rotciti, hound for Rotorua. One was a" Mori whose sentence for theft would expire next Saturday; the other was a Pakeha named Brastings, awaiting trial for theft.. The car was recovered undamaged.
