COLLISION WITH TRAIN.
LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT. THREE HORSES KILLED. By Telegraph.—l'rcss Association. Timaru, Last Night. As the second express from the north was entering Temuka station a sixhorse team with an empty waggon iva's just leaving a . store and essayed to cross the Denmark Street crossing, though the warning bells were ringing. A second six-horse team was following closely, and it is supposed that the noise of the two teams prevented the driver hearing the bells. The driver had not time to pull up to save a collision, and the engine crashed into the leaders, and carried one of them nearly to the platform. Two horses were killed outright, a third had to be shot, and a fourth was seriously injured. The team belonged to W. H. Thoniley, and the driver war. S. Tarrant. The three horses were valued at £IOO.
