" <j The outbreak was first noticed Iby a telegraph messenger and when he gUtt ! the alarm flames were bunting fr<jin - the rear of Young's confectionery sh#p (formerly Logie'a) and from the viwaßt i adjoining shop formerly occupied by J. " Auld (draper). The, fire had a goM t hold on the rear portion of both, tfyeie ' ? shops, and, spreading rapidly, the flaotts J burst through the ceiling into the i meiits occupied by Mr. Alec MaoDJaffflW, : dentist. The brigade was quickly on the saette ' and with a good pressure of water tfie ■■! five was got under control rapidly. Tie ■ flames were attacked from aeveru poitlte ; and were oonflned to the back of -the *| two shops. Before long the outiirelk 4 was extinguished, but not before a good j amount of damage had been done. ' Young's shop appears to hare ati< j t.ained the most damage. The rooms tt ] the back were giitted and the stock fa f the front portion of the dhop was dsuß- I aged by water. The rear of Aw* 1 shop was also badly damaged by fire aftd | water. Mr. MacDi&rmiivs apartment* -j were not so seriously affected, but a soSd i deal of damage was done by fire Md 4 water. J The premises are owned by Mrs Douglas, of New Plymouth. J The only insurance figures available 1 early this morning concern Mr, YotSJJ, J who has a policy for £llOO in ' tit# Phoenix Office on his stock. I
