WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) January 13. In a two rink match between Vogeltown and Waitara, played at Waitara, the home team won by *2l poiuts. Waitara is to be represented by two rinks at the Taranaki Tournament on the 20th inst,viz., Davies, S.George, Wyllie, Ford; S. Elliot, F. Hoskin, Kupe,"C. H. Sampson. The following ha*e Been selected to play against the Park Tennis Club on the local courts on Thursday next:— Misses Hggleston, Tate, Rowlands, Bennett, Johnstone, Hawkins, Mrs' Smith, Miss K. Walker, Miss Bernstcn, Mrs Whittington, Miss H. Bernsten, Miss A. McGavin. Kmergencies: Mr. Vanghan and Miss W. Walker.
A dance held by the Clifton Football Club on Wednesday last was well attended, tlie club's finances benefiting to the extent of £G. Another dance is to ■be held to-morrow evening. Mr. J. Parry is making atill further alterations to Ms shop, in the direction of show windows. The front has been pulled out and, as far as one can see, the door is to be set back about 6 feet, tlVis making a pood show window on each side of the door. A considerable amount of discussion took place at the meeting of the Clifton County Council on Friday on the subject of the railway to Te Kuiti, and one member said that he did not think the Waitara Borough Council' voiced the opinions of the ratepayers when they passed the resolution objecting to the railway. As a matter of fact the Borough Council did not object to the railway, but after advocating a road for so long, it was thought probable that by pressing for a railway now, the settlers might not get either.
