DOCTORS IN NEW ZEALAND. ! M practice, with 22 others on military ' I duties in New Zealand and 511 ovcrsefts, '0 The average for the Dominion is 1872 j persons to each civilian practitioner, ;;; compared with 220!) in November, 1917. Eleven districts show an increase in the - average during the two years, but ex* yj ; cept in the Bay of Islands, Wairarapa, . ? Wairau, and Vincent, there has beeß no decrease in the number of practising ' f ;i medical officers. In the other cases j the increase is due to the growth of population. It was previously mi«gested that 2000 to 2500 might 'be : assumed a fair population to each medical man in urban areas, but that in sparsely settled country districts anything over this number might mean an inadequacy of medical service. : 4
