HOUSEHOLD HINTS. Wrap eggs in tissue paper to boil them. This will prevent them cracking. Wash mahogany with equal parts of vinegar and water before polishing it. Sprinkle borax over a damp floor before laying down new oilcloth. This will prevent it from rotting.

TJso silver sand and warm water for scrubbing bread-boards. Tiiey should then be well rinsed and dried in the open air.

Meat and pudding should not be put away while hot, and must never. be left in the dish thev are served in.

An envelope closed with the white of an egg cannot be opened by the steam of boiling water aa the steam only adds to its firmness.

If a cauliflower is tied up in a piece of muslin it can, when cooked, be easily lifted from saucepan to colander with no risk of being broken. Where a house is overrun with mice, nnd you do not want to keep a eat, the mice can be kept away by painting all round their holes with oil of peppermint.

When you have cooked onions, fill the pan with boiling water and drop a redhot cinder in; this will dissipate the disagreeable odour.

To make a candle burn many hours, put a little very fine table salt round the wick; this is said to prolong the existence of the candle for hours beyond the usual time.

To clean a velvet coat collar, dip an old tooth-brush in benzine and rub the collar briskly. It will look like new. To remove fly-spots from mirrors and window-panes dip a soft rag in paraffin and rub the glass.

To remove stains' from enamelled saucepans use crushed eggshells. They will answer the purpose better than either ashes or sand.
