The Palmerston North Bowling Club have already arranged one rink for the New Plymouth tournament on January 22, and in all probability there will be others to follow. At the Wellington Centre tournament, Walker and Brackeuridge were playing a semifinal, when there occurred what is described by the New Zealand Times as an unfortunate incident. When the 13th head had been played Newton was lying the shot, and Davis,, the lead, being unaware that Newtown intended to measure for a second, picked the jack up in order to roll it up the green, when Wilson, of Ponsonby, protested on the around that the head was not completed. A conference between the skips resulted in Brackenridge conceding Ponsonby a poKnt, but Newton might have been allowed the point, which was fairly won. Eventually Walker won by 23 to 21, but the Times suggests that, apart from the. loss of a point, the "incident" had a material effect on the play. Mr. Walker, the Ponsonby skip, in a letter to the Times, warnly Tesenta unsportsmanlike conduct being imputed to his team, on an absolute mis-statement of the facts. "What happened," he says, "was this: On the head in which the incident occurred it was a measure for shot, Mr. Wilson thinking we had it. While Mr. .Wilson was in the act of measuring, the Newton lead picked up the jack, and the opposing side agreed to pay the penalty, Mr. Brackenridge declining to refer the mat- j ter to the umpire, though that was my I •uggMttou." ,
