AUSTRALIAN G.O.C. FUND. By T6l»jraph.—Preis Asm.—Copyright - London, Jan. 7. The report of the administration of the Australian G.O.C. Fund since September 1. when it was handed over from headquarters, shows the Board of Control restricted its use to relieve necessitous cases of unmarried mothers. The fund in September amounted to £2449. The Bobttl 1,85 since investigated 36& cases, approved of 143 applications, rejected 225, and distributed £7OO. At least 90 per cent of the applicants were women of clean reputation previously. Wherever possible the soldier responsible was paraded. A large proportion of the rejections were due to the manner in which soldiers offered to shoulder their responsibility. In no instance was there an attempt at evasion. A REMARKABLE BANKRUPTCY. London, Jan. 7. A remarkable bankruptcy is reported of a well-known foreign firm in the Mincing Lane rubber market. The London partner sold two millions' worth of rubber, which advanced from 2s to 25.10 d, involving a loss of over half a million. The partner absconded and the chief loss falls on large firms who resold rubber which bankrupts cannot deliver. It is expected the debtors will pay five shillings in the pound.
DISPOSAL OF RATIONS. :'' London, Jan. 7. The court deferred promulgation of sentence upon Lieut. H. ft. Harris, of the Twelfth Battalion of the Australian Forces, who was court-martialled on a charge of fraudulent disposal of rations of the total value of £ISOO. He pleaded guilty. Major C. B.
