A petition * has been largely signed requesting tfeat I a bonus be granted. j It is complained that one of the f workers, whilst obtaining signatures to ;. the petition during the kinch hour, was {. detected by the manager and almost ~ immediately afterwards dismissed with- i out notice. The discharged worker tap- I,' pens to be the president of the re- ~ cently-formed Milton branch of the ;- Woollen Mill Employees' Union. i An indignation meeting was held, and, i resolutions adopted that the manage l ment be asked to re-instate the worker, and that in the alternative, wholesale ' resignations should be handed in. A deputation waited on the manager, who refused to re-instate the man. J As a consequence 120 employees have . tendered their resignation, to take effect J from the close of Saturday's work.
