MOTOR-CYCLE DANGERS.
COMMENTS BY A CORONER. Auckland, Jan. 7. At the inquest concerning the death of Charles Macklow, who was killed In a motor-cycle collision at Alexander Park last night, an eye-witness stated that the collision occurred at the corner of the straight after Craig had turned. Both, cyclists were travelling at about forty miles an hour. Craig's light was burning, and, in witness* opinion, the dust , raised, the falling light, and the obscurity created by the fence were the contributory causes of the accident. The medical evidence showed that death was due to fracture and laceration of the brain, and the coroner returned a veidict in accordance with the medical testimony, deatli being the outcome of an accidental collision between deceased's cycle and that ridden by Selwyn Craig. In delivering his verdict the* Coroner made several remarks in which he deprecated the practice of motor-cycle racing He said it was quite clear that the EpRom track was unsuitable for cvcle-racin" by reason of obstacle in tlie wav oi ■ vision of the riders, and bv the "dust which was created. Motor-cvele racing ttas a notoriously dangerous sport under the best conditions, and ho hoped that everything would be done at the ensuing meeting to mitigate against anv untoward event. * Macklow enlisted when eighteen, and bad lengthy service in Palestine as a motor-cycle dispatch rider with the Mounted Signal Troop
