A FATAL ACCIDENT.

A LITTLE GIRL KILLED. KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR CYCLE. A fatal accident occurred in New Plymouth yesterday afternoon, resulting 'in the death of Margaret Helen Liston, 3i years old, the youngest daughter of Constable Liston, of Kaponga.

The scene of the accident was Brougham Street, where the child wan knocked down by a motor cycle, and received injuries from which she died. It appears that Mrs Liston had come to town for the day with the child and when they were passing along Brougham Street about 3.30 p.m. Mrs Liston stopped at a corner to speak to some lady friends. The child started to cross the street, and her mother, noticing a motor cycle corning along, called out to her. The motorist, who was a Maori, had also seen the child, for he slowed down and changed his course so as to pass behind the child. But as he did this the little girl turned to run back to her mother and the motorist could not avoid a collision. The cycle struck the child on the head, inflicting grave injuries. The girl was removed to the hospital, where she died a few hours later.

An inquest, will be held to-day.
