THE WAVERLEY MEETING. (By "Moluroa.") The above gathering promises to attract a large crowd of Taranaki sports to Waverley to-day, and the track is In splendid order. Fields should bo large, and racing Interest-, inc. The Cup bears a very open appear-, snce, but whatever beats All Over and^ Detroit! Win have to go pretty fast. Jutland i* | a prime favorite In the Brewer Handicap, and looks "the goods," (Zola (Hurdles), Fnrro and Arch Salute (Flying), Simon and Arrow, field (Moumahakl Stakes), Vance (Wilson, Stakes), Ruddy {Jackson Stakes), and Tama Fox (Maiden) will all carry heaps of money In-day. THE CHAMPION PLATE. The principal event to be decided at Trentham to-day is (he Champion Plate, a tveight-for-age race of a mile and a quarter. Acceptances are as followj: Vagabond, Gloaming, Volo, l)esert Gold, Mascot, and Affectation. On paper the race appears to be between Gloaming, Desert Gold, and Affectation, and of the trio Gloaming and Affectation have had the benefit of solid spring racing. Gloaming had a strenuous trip across from Sydney, but is reported to be quite well again, and on tho strength of his bold showing against Wolarol and Rebus -In the Craven Plate lie should be sent out an odds-on favorite, today Whether the Wanganut' Guineas winner (Affectation) will prove capable of extending the champion remains to be seen, but Desert Gold Is sure to hustle him along for most of the Journey. Such a meeting of cracks is worth going a long way to see.
