NAVAL SECURITY.
BRITAIN'S FUTURE TASK. STATEMENT BY LORD BEATTY. By Telegraph.—Press Aasn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 25, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 23. In accepting the freedom of the City of Bristol, Admiral Lord Beatty said that insurance against disaster in the past had been effected by a fabulous expenditure on armaments, but now that the peace-loving nations had crushed aggressors, we might hope that the power and influence-of the League of Nations would provide in a large measure the insurance necessary to enable us to limit naval armaments. Britain must still, Jiowever, make greater provision for naval security than the other nations, in view of her vital dependence on the safety of the main sea communications linking up the Empire. The merchant shipping remains the chief source of our prosperity.—Times Service.
