Speakers pointed out that prices bad risen from 120 to 128 per cent over th« pre-war rates since the Profiteering Act came into force, so it Was evident the Government's scheme had failed. Mr Prank Hodges admitted that workers were in a vicious circle wherein wages travelled after prices. The present excess profits tax was no solution, but excess profits should be diverted for the purpose of reducing prices.—Au«.N.Z. Cable Assn. Cable Assn. • EXPORT OP JAM. Received Oct, 28, 6.5 p.m. London, October 28. The Pood Ministry informed a deputation that while unable at present to' grant a general permission to export jam, it will give full consideration to* any applications for an export" license, for particular parcels. Each case will be dealt with on its merits. • The deputation received an assurance that, in order to avoid any possible squeezing out by British jam interests, the Ministry would appoint Dominions' representatives on the Jam Control Board.—Aus.-N.Z.
