MEETING OF GENERAL COM- < MITTEE. A Meeting of the General Committee of the Taranaki A. and P. Society wis held on Saturday afternoon, the president (Mr W. B.' Grant) occupying the chair. There were also present: Messrs. H. C. Sampson, H. Benton, A. P. Lister, W. Hall, A. R. Davis, Z. T. Walker, F. Dodunski, C. Stanley, C. Dobson, T. Dickson, A. J. Luxton, B. Honeyfleld, J. A. Kurth, C. iFairbrother,"A. E. Washer, S. Tickers, T. Smellie. Mr. Benton expressed the confidence all felt in Mr. Grant, and their pleasure in seeing that he had beeit elected president. He had carried a great deal of the responsibility of the society's affairs and the honor was well merited. (Applause.) Mr. Grant, after acknowledging the sentiments expressed, welcomed the new members to the committee, and also stated that he hoped he would be able to fill the presidential chair as well as his predecessors. He felt sure of the co-operation of the memebrs of the society and especially that of the members of the committee. The following were added to the committee: Messrs. H. Ward,. EC. Stonex, and'H. C. Skelton. The following dairy factories notified the appointment of representatives: Rrooklands (Mr J. McEldowney), Uruti (Mr C. Musker), Waitoitoi (Mr A. Smith), Frankley Road (Mr A. R. Gudopp), Oxford (Mr P. O'Sullivan), North Taranaki (Mr 0. H. Herbert). Patua (Mr R. H. Gatenby), Mangorei (Mr J. R. Rowlands), Rotakere (Mr A. ft. Da vies), and Waitara Road (Mr W. Hall). The following new members were elected: Messrs R. D. Climip and Z. T. Walker, G. C. Taylor, A. Fenwick, N. •Tones. The following committees were elected:— Executive—Messrs. W. B. Grant, .T. C. Connett, H. C. Sampson. G. W. Browne. L. A. "Nolan, A. E. Wafeher. C. Fairbrot.her, C. Dobson. 13. Honevfield, A. T. Moore, N. W. Hill. Geo. Colson, ■T. R. Rowlands, J, Scott. C. Hoskin, A. Lister, H. Benton, L. .Tackson, E. .Tackson. F. Stanlev, E. Stanley. H. Ward, J. Tt. Hill, A. R. Davis, and T. Dickson. Finance —Messrs. Grant, Connett. Browne, Nolan. Sampson, Fairbrother, Washer and Dobson, Grounds—Messrs Grant, Sampson, Dobson, Hoskin, Washer, and Walker. It was decided that the meeting of the General Committee be held on the first Saturday in each month, and that the executive meeting be on the Tuesday p'-vious. The following weft appointed Schedule Revision Committees:—Light Horses, etc., Messrs. C. Fairbrother, R> H. Pigot.t, L. A. Nolan, W. McKenzie, and A. P. Lister: Draughts, Messrs T. Smellie, and G. Colson; Stock. Messrs. Grant, Sampson, Washer, Hall, A. .T. fiuxton, Ruebe, Hoskin, Honeyficld, Smellie. Benton and Walker.
Special thanks wni expressed to Messrs C. Honevfield, C. Hoskin, and T. 'Luxton for donating their debentures to the Society. It was also decided that in view of his leaving the district and in recognition of his services to the Society, Mr. T. Luxton be presented with a life member's medallion, the matter of procuring the same being left with the president. It wsyi reported that Mr. Climie had increased his donation in the pony section, so as to make the first prize money in each class up to £l. A special vote of thanks was accorded Mr Climie for his donation which amounted to £3 10s.
The action of the president in ordering 300 ticket-holders for fastening on show pens was approved. The matter of approving of the lease of the ll ] /j acres of Rowa Rewa Rifle Range was left to the chairman with power to act.
The action of the Grounds, Committee in letting part of the grandstand building as a temporary residence was' confirmed. • ■
In regard to the resolution protesting against the continuation of the embargo on the export of hides, replies were received from the Hon.' .T. B. Hine and Mr W. T. Jennings. M.'sP., stating that they would bVing the matter under the notice of the Prime Minister. A letter was teceived from the Tourist and Expansion 'League in regard to the proposal to hold a carnival week in New Plymouth during the February race week, and asking if the Society could see its wdy to hold its show during the same week. The members considered the suggestion impracticable and it was decided to reply that the Society could not see its way to hold the show in February.
The application of the North Taranaki Cricket Association for permission to play cricket on the Society's grounds, was referred to the Grounds Committee, with power to act. It was resolved to allow the Catholic Bazaar Committee the use of the annexe to the Coronation Hall, also some trestles and table-tops to be used for a BUpper-room during the bazaar in the February race week. A letter waß received from the New Plymouth branch of the New Zealand Jersey Breeders' Association in\ regard to a proposal for holding a "Taranaki Jersey Cattle Oaks." according to conditions already published. It was decided to appoint a sub-com-mittee consisting of Messrs Grant. Fairbrother, and Benton to confer with the Jersey Breeders* Association on the matter.
