NEW PLYMOUTH BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

'♦ . The secretary of the society, Miss B. Kerr Duncan, reports:— The first work the New Plymouth Beautifying Society have in view is the cleaning up and laying out of Baine's Terrace, which skirts the Huatoki on the west side, running south from Vivian Street, and cleaning up and improving on the east side along the fCarrington Road, and planting the banks with suitable shrubs. Thov are applying to the Borough Council for leave to do this. The committee comprises many enthusiastic people. On Sunday some of them took a trip to Paritutu and ascended to the summit. The wire guide lines were in a dangerous condition of disrepair. It is painful to notice tho effect of the operations of the workmen engaged in stripping a part of the base of Paritutu, tho effect already partly | undermines the extreme end of the path leading up to the summit. Anyone usinj; the path in t)w twilight or dark runn a great risk of falling over a precipice of a hundred feet. Another thing in visitng Paritutu was noticed, the vandalism in the destruction' of pine trees which afforded visitors shelter, and it will take many years to replace them. It is encouraging to note the interest | taken by an increase of about fifty members during the last week. Mr. W. [ N T ixon has generouslv offered an iron garden seat, which he will erect on a substantial foundation.
