ELTHAM.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, Sept. 15. Occasional trucks of timber are arriving for the Egmont Box Company-, but there is a long period between the date of consignment and that of delivery. Timber consigned on August 20 has not arrived yet. It will take, about three months before stocks of building timber can be brought up to the usual standard or existing orders supplied. Fortunately, the company carries heavy stocks oi timber for butter boxes.. There is a slight shortage of battens for cheeso crates, but there will be no difficulty in meeting the whole of the demand from butter and cheese factories during the current vear.

No information is available as to the progress of negotiations for the acquisition by the Egmont Box Company of timber rights to 4000 acres of land, estimated to carry 102 million feet oi timber. It will probably take some months to complete the transaction. To get at the timber it will be necessary to construct a bridge across the Wanganui River, but saw-milling companies make very light of difficulties of that kind.

The milk supplies at the Eltham factory and its branches compare moat favorably with those for the same period last year. It was thought that an improvement would be shown, but the indications now are that the season will be about on a par with the last. The spring, so far, has been very mild, and the grass, which was slow in coming away, is now showing a good growth, and unless the weather takes a decided turn for the worse feed should soon be abundant. October is frequently a bad month, and it is quite possible that stock will yet receive a setback.

At the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday the Magistrate's decision will be given in the motor collision case, in which two claims for damages totalling £32 have been made.

The Eltham County Council discussed on Saturday a letter from the Public Health Department dealing with the scheme for providing medical men and nurses for country districts. Mr. Belcher pointed out that the matter did not directly concern Eltham, but they should support the scheme, and his only regret was that it had not been made compulsory. Mr. Campbell said the Hawera Hospital Board was making provision for a resident doctor, and hoped later to have a doctor and a nurse travelling around the district, If this scheme was put into operation by any local body it would only mean a smail additional rate. On the motion of Cr. Smith, it was decided to support the scheme.

The illness of the' engineer for the Waimate West County Council has, owing to the important works now on baud, placid the osunoil in an awkwart

position. A deputation consisting of Messrs McPhillip and McKay waited upon the Eltham County Council on Saturday and asked if the latter body would allow its engineer (Mr. Tosswill'l to assist Waimate West. The matter was left in the hands of the chairman to arrange.
